UK Travel Day 1

We arrived the UK at Gatwick airport at 9 am May 24.
After 2hrs we escaped the air port we were on our way.
At first the driving on the left side of the road was a bit harrowing. but the Mister soon got the hang of it.

After starting on a main 6 lane divided highway we gradually made it it down to rural roads.
The Tally - Ho pub was the first stop .. lunch.

It's a bit like falling down the rabbit hole. All the buildings are brick or stone plain or with some sort of plaster finish. Lots of charm and magic. Just look a a National trust forest couldn't help stopping in. One can almost see the fairies dancing in the dappled bluebell carpet of the forest.

We headed to Avebury ( a world heratige site.. village, stone circle ... Sidbury mound.. a manor and grounds.. plus West Kennet long barrow). A two hour nap at our B&B  and time for another pub

In Marlborough at the above Waggon & Horses we ate. Delicious. Meat pie, fish and chips, bread pudding and a much needed cup of real coffee. The first since leaving home what 20 hours ago or so. Of course two pubs means two ales mmm good different good! Aside the ale is drawn by hand. The handle is used to pump the ale out and into the glass.  No pressurized kegs here.

We looked around a bit, so much to do and see here in rural UK.
Back at Avebury we looked into St James church.
An example of one of thee wool churches, built from the success of the wool trade.

Here is the carved stone font wreathed with holly and other fresh local fauna.
Tomorrow we will spend more time at the
World Heritage Site the village of Avebury set in the center of a stone circle.

So far  Wilshire is a great place to poke about in.
